Privacy policy
Your privacy, in plain sight.
We built Goodsun to give you clarity. The same goes for how we handle your information. Here's exactly what we collect, why, and the control you keep — written to follow the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
The short version
The full detail is below, but here's the gist.
We collect what we need
Your address and contact details, plus what your roof tells us — enough to model your solar and run a tender. No more.
We never sell your data
Not now, not ever. We don't trade your information or hand it to advertisers.
Installers bid blind
During a tender, installers see your roof's specs — not your name or address — until you choose to share them.
You're in control
Ask to see, correct or delete what we hold, any time. We'll sort it.
Who we are
Current Group Limited, a New Zealand company trading as “Goodsun” (“Goodsun”, “we”, “us”), helps homeowners understand their roof's solar potential and run a sealed-bid tender so vetted installers compete for the job. When you use goodsun.co.nz or the Goodsun app, we collect and handle personal information about you, and we're the agency responsible for it under the Privacy Act 2020.
This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have. If anything here is unclear, we'd genuinely rather you asked — our contact details are at the bottom of the page.
What we collect
We only collect information that helps us model your roof, run a fair tender, and keep you informed. That falls into a few buckets:
Your address & property
Your contact details
Energy details you share
How you use the site
We collect most of this directly from you. Roof and imagery data comes from public and licensed mapping sources. We don't collect sensitive information like health or financial account details, and we never ask for more than the job needs.
How we use your information
We use what we collect for the things you'd expect us to:
- To model your roof's solar potential and build your report.
- To run your tender and pass installers the technical specs they need to bid.
- To send your results, bid updates and service messages — and, if you opt in, the occasional helpful email.
- To improve our models, fix problems and keep the service secure.
- To meet our legal obligations.
If we ever want to use your information for something genuinely new, we'll ask you first.
Sharing during a tender
The tender is where sharing matters most, so we're deliberate about it. Installers bid blind. They see the technical picture of your roof — system size, tilt, expected yield — but not your name, address or contact details. Your identity is only revealed to the installer you choose, once you decide to go ahead.
Beyond installers, we only share information with trusted service providers who help us run Goodsun (like hosting and email delivery), where the law requires it, or to protect people's safety. We never sell your personal information or share it for advertising.
Where your information is stored
Your information is held on secure servers, some of which are operated by reputable providers based overseas. Where information is stored or processed outside New Zealand, we take reasonable steps to ensure it has comparable privacy protections to those required here, as the Privacy Act 2020 expects.
How long we keep it
We keep your information only as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as long as the law requires. If you close your account or ask us to, we'll delete or de-identify your personal information unless we're required to hold on to it — and we'll tell you if that's the case.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:
Access
Correct
Delete
Opt out
To make any of these requests, just email hello@goodsun.co.nz. We'll respond as soon as we can, and within 20 working days as required by law. It's free, though we may ask you to confirm your identity first.
Keeping your information safe
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards — encryption in transit, access controls, and regular reviews — to protect your information from loss, misuse or unauthorised access. No system is perfect, but if a privacy breach ever occurs that could cause you serious harm, we'll notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
As Goodsun grows, we may update this policy. When we make a meaningful change, we'll update the date at the top and, if it materially affects you, let you know directly. The latest version always lives here.
